Mobile Marketing is a multi-channel digital marketing technique focused on reaching a specific audience on their smartphones.
As per Mr. Jonathan Joson, a mobile marketing expert, one thing that was striking for me on the importance of mobile marketing is how the actual number of active sim cards in the country is more than the entire population. How is this possible? One person usually has multiple sim cards. This means that majority of the population has his or her own personal phone and some even have phones that are dual sim or have two or more mobile phones. This is possible because of the cheap phones and smart phones available and the affordable mobile and data plans offered.
Filipinos are digitising fast. As mentioned in my previous blog post on the Internet usage in the Philippines, it is at an average of 9 hours and 45 minutes in day, which is basically 39% of our entire day. Majority of the internet users are young and growing who are mostly affluent.
Joson mentions how half of the searches done online are via mobile. It is simply the easiest way to communicate and access information through a click of the button. Everything is in our phone, our alarm clock, information, financial applications, watch movies and everything else. Our mobile phones are the first thing we pick up in the morning when we wake up and the last thing we check at night. Others and I would be even say “my phone is my life.” Everything I need to remember and my private information are there that if I lost it, I would be lost in life.

There is a shift from just a URL page to having your own mobile application to entice your consumers to purchase of avail of services. This can also be related to the term M-Commerce, which is Mobile + E-commerce and must include the following:
Marketing 360
Assets
Targeting
Behaviour
Content
Examples are like how the cycling studio I go to, Electric Studio, started from a manual way of booking your classes in 2015 to an online website and eventually, developed their own mobile application to make purchases of packages and booking of classes.
From https://www.electricstudio.ph To Electric Studio Mobile App
Another example would be Zalora. It started as an online platform then developed their own Zalora application and even entice buyers that if they download the application he/she is entitled to a Php 300 off coupon upon checkout. Lots of new marketing schemes and everything now is limitless.
Zalora Mobile App
There are much more examples like online banking and also every industry has shifted from physical to online to m-commerce. This shows the importance of Mobile Marketing in reaching out to your target consumers. Everything now is in the accessed via mobile because of accessibility and convenience.
