In the video presentation by MIT Director Jeanne Ross, she mentions that with the ever-changing digital world we live in, the use of Social, Mobile and Analytics, Cloud services and the Internet of Things, known as “SMACIT” can help businesses utilise opportunities at hand.
We should anticipate that there will be everyday changes and already have contingency plans when situations arise. The strategy used no matter what the challenge may be should always be in accordance to the core belief of every marketing plan — to satisfy the needs and wants of every customer. One’s products and service should provide quality and seamless experience. As Ross says, don’t be a copycat. Don’t try all the strategies that other successful companies are using. It may be successful for them, but not for your business model. It will be a waste of time and remember, time is not on your side. You must be agile in this constantly changing environment.
Rather, find or make the best strategy that supports the backbone of your business. This should be done simultaneously with the constantly changing environment. One must be agile and continuously evolve its strategy.
The Digital services backbone is what will support your strategy execution and one must always invest on this.
As mentioned by Ross, she emphasises the use of the Cloud in "smaCit". There are multiple kinds of cloud -- Infrastructure, Platform and Software Application. The best is to have one cloud server to do all three that will connect to the servers, internal and external users of the company. This is for easier monitoring, security and upgrades.
